Carbrasive

Brazed Carbide Tools

  • Carbrasive commenced operations in 1979 by the founding father Mr Doug Palin who was a highly respected design engineer. Doug had previously been Chief Engineer for Advanx Rubber Co in Sydney Australia for 25 years before joining B & J Rocket as the Australian based manger, designing and constructing their manufacturing plant in Australia. Doug’s youngest son Tony Palin who is a qualified mechanical engineer joined Carbrasive in 1980 as the company’s first employee. Growth of the company in the early years was slow however the company gradually started to expand with an increasing export market. The roll grinding and retread industries historically have been the mainstay of the company although there are now several other industries such as conveyor belt, shoe repair and surfboard industries who seek solutions from Carbrasive for difficult grinding applications. Doug and Tony Palin gradually grew the business over the first 20 years of its existence up to the death of Doug in 2001 after a short battle with cancer. At the time of Doug’s passing the company ownership passed onto Tony Palin and his wife Paula who ran the company up to 2009. In 2009 the company’s assets and IP was sold to Elgi Rubber Company who are based in Coimbatore, India. Tony joined Elgi as a consultant and still works closely with Elgi to monitor the production and development of new products.
